Abstract

After returning to educational institutions following the outbreak of COVID-19, all the participants in the educational process had to maintain sufficient interpersonal distance. The first graders of one Slovenian elementary school were punished by “writing lines”, due to disobeying the rules. We prepared a motivational story with an intervention, aiming to influence students’ autonomy, indirectly influencing their motivation to maintain interpersonal distance. The research is based on qualitative research methods such as a rating scale, an unstructured interview, and questionnaires. We were interested in whether influencing student autonomy and motivation could reduce the burden of maintaining interpersonal distance in school. The results show that the students who had the most problems with maintaining interpersonal distance were affected the most, and that teachers no longer used harmful interventions for students. For definitive conclusions, the subject should be studied in greater detail on a larger sample, and the results should be compared with a control group.
