About Autoethnography and Its Role in the Pedagogical Field

In the field of education, ethnographic research is not commonly applied. As a result, autoethnographic research or autoethnography is less known or even rare in Slovenia. In general, it cannot be found in works within the field of education. Hence, the article provides an in-depth description of autoethnography and of its importance in research papers. Additionally, two basic forms of autoethnography (analytical and evocative) and their frequency of use are presented. According to the described characteristics of autoethnography, the article concludes with its use in the field of education, proving that it is particularly suitable for researchers and practitioners studying people’s relationships in multicultural environments. In the context of teaching, it enables a clearer understanding of the effect of certain elements of the teacher’s behaviour on the learning process. Using it can improve the research skills of teachers, the relationship between teachers and students, and, lastly, the relationship between teachers and parents.
